Three families envisioned a new Lutheran church in Bartlesville in 1979 and a public meeting was held at the YWCA on October 21, 1979 to determine interest. A planning committee met on October 28, 1979. The Bartlesville Lutheran Mission held weekly Advent services at St. James Catholic Church (5500 Douglas Lane) with Lutheran pastors from the area officiating. On January 3, 1980, 43 voters elected to join the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (AELC) and 82 were in attendance at the first Communion service held on January 6, 1980 at the Tri-County Technical School (6101 Nowata Road). At this time, Rev. Steve Liechte began serving as temporary pastor. In February 1980, Our Savior Lutheran Church began meeting at the Bartlesville Women’s Club (6th and Shawnee) where education classes were offered. Our Savior was officially incorporated into the AELC on May 30 and June 1, 1980 and the Rev. Joel R. Benbow was installed as pastor on August 24, 1980. In 1981, Our Savior began meeting at the YWCA (411 S. Johnstone). Land was purchased at 300 N.E. Madison in November of 1983 and a fellowship hall was completed and dedicated on January 27, 1985. A 10th anniversary celebration was held May 5, 1990 and a farewell service was held for Rev. Benbow on August 15, 1993. Rev. James E. Meimerstorf was installed as pastor in February 27, 1994.
